A recent agreement has been reached that bodes well for the progress of EVs on Italian soil. FS Sistemi Urbani and Class Onlus have reached an agreement to install over 15,000 charging points for electric cars in about 250 parking lots by 2025, aiming to support green mobility by facilitating the interchange between train and car.

Where the charging infrastructure will be located The charging infrastructure will be set up near the railway stations in urban centers. This way, anyone visiting a railway station will be able to find a charging socket to power their electric vehicle. The parking lots will become true hubs where people can safely recharge their vehicles while reaching their desired destination by train. The exact locations for these charging points are still being studied, but the plan is expected to be completed by 2025. The FS Group has also announced a tender worth 130 million euros to build twenty photovoltaic plants, with the aim of covering 40% of the energy needs by 2027 through solar power.

This initiative, along with the latest directives from MASE, contributes to making the presence of charging stations more widespread in Italy, addressing the concerns of Italian consumers about "running out" of energy for their electric vehicles. According to Motus-E, which monitors the infrastructure situation quarterly, as of March 2023, there are 41,173 charging points for EVs throughout Italy, including 22,107 charging stations and 15,262 locations, and their numbers are expected to increase as they get closer to the targets of the Agenda 2030."
